LD Online
LD Online is the world's leading web site on learning disabilities and ADHD, serving more than 200,000 parents, teachers, and other professionals each month. LD Online seeks to help children and adults reach their full potential by providing accurate and up-to-date information and advice about learning disabilities and ADHD. The site features hundreds of helpful articles, multimedia, monthly columns by noted experts, first person essays, children’s writing and artwork, a comprehensive resource guide, very active forums, and a Yellow Pages referral directory of professionals, schools, and products.
Children of the Code
The Children of the Code project has four major components:
- A three hour Public Television, DVD and Web documentary series;
- A ten-hour college, university, and professional development DVD series;
- A series of teacher and parent presentations and seminars;
- A cross-indexed website/database containing audio, video and transcripts with the world's leading experts in fields related to reading.
BDA- British Dyslexia Association
"To campaign to break down barriers and provide a dyslexia-friendly society that enables dyslexic people to reach their potential. We will, with others, provide comprehensive support for an all-age dyslexic population. By the year 2010 we want to see services that enhance the quality of life for all dyslexic people in all communities"
In addition it provides a wealth of information for teachers, parents and other professionals organises international conferences and publishes much information including the international journal 'Dyslexia'.
The International Dyslexia Association- based in Baltimore, USA
An international, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the study and treatment of learning disability, dyslexia. It was established to continue the pioneering work of Samuel Orton, a neurologist who was one of the first to identify dyslexia. A very comprehensive site.
Other Sites BECTA- British Education Computer and Technology Association
Becta’s purpose is to support the transformation of education through the integration of ICT into learning and teaching, educational institutions and systems. It is one of the most useful sites I have found having detailed information for parents as well as teachers and other professionals.

A commercial firm committed to helping dyslexics make the most of their abilities. Undertakes research, evaluating software and hardware etc. The results are on this web site- e.g. different Voice Recognition Software is compared on an ongoing basis, Franklin spell checkers are compared etc.
Inclusive Technology
A commercial special needs company (Software, hardware and consultancy) As well as developing excellent software for special needs children and adults there are many articles on a wide range of special needs. In addition training information can be downloaded for free.
Dyslexia Action
Founded in 1972, for the assessment and teaching of people with dyslexia and for the training of specialist teachers. Dyslexia Action puts a high priority on research into ways of improving the effectiveness of its teaching and training, and on the development of specialist teaching materials. Each year Dyslexia Action assesses and teaches several thousand children, adults and trains teachers for accredited diplomas and certificates.
Closing the Gap
An American site with very useful information on computer technology for all areas of special education. The postings from the on-line discussions are particularly interesting.
Literacy Trust
The Literacy Trust provides advice and a huge amount of information from a wide area on how to help children improve their reading skills. Links to many relevant web sites for all ages from babies to adults.
I am Dyslexic
A site developed by Barnaby. "I am a 14 year old dyslexic. I made this web site for people that have dyslexia but mostly for dyslexic children. If you are dyslexic this is the site for you. I use a computer in school so I have been through all the things a dyslexic person goes through. On my web sire you can find lots of helpful things" A very interesting site in many different ways, has a large and very useful list of spelling mnemonics which students love, especially because it ahs been complied by a 14 year old. There are other very useful ideas, facts, software ad hardware information.

This site has a large amount of information and resources for teaching in all areas at home and school. For the early years words and pictures is superb.
The Oxford Reading Tree
Online activities to support the teaching of literacy and ICT with the Oxford Reading Tree characters.
Primary Games
Lots of games for children across a wide range of areas. Reasonably priced maths software.
Children’s Story Books Online
Some delightful stories on line and links to other resources and activities. The stories can be cut and pasted into a talking word processor (eg Textease) if needed.
