What happens at a Speld Victoria assessment appointment?
Typically, the assessment process takes approximately five hours (from 9.30 am in the morning until 2.30 pm in the afternoon). However, the actual length depends on the age of the individual being assessed and the test(s) being administered. Suitable rest breaks are given throughout the process.
Generally the day will include:
✔ A preliminary interview at the beginning of the day, including discussion on the background information provided in advance;
✔ A standardised cognitive (IQ) test. Applicable if having a Full Assessment with a Psychologist;
✔ A feedback session on how the process has gone. Here, the Psychologist’s or Speech Pathogist will present summary test results, as well as explain the meaning of these results. The Psychologist’s or Speech Pathologist’s preliminary thoughts on the best strategies to address any issues identified will also be discussed. In some instances referrals to other specialists may also be considered.
✔ Where both a comprehensive literacy and numeracy assessment are both required, testing will occur over 2 days.
SPELD Victoria has a comfortable waiting room, kitchen facilities and a place to eat your lunch.
However, being so centrally located, there are plenty of other eating spots to explore!
The 50% balance of your payment will be due at the completion of the assessment. This can be paid by Credit Card (Visa and Mastercard), or Debit Card.
The final comprehensive written report will be emailed to you within 4 working weeks after the assessment day.
